Welcome

Welcome to my new website; the third ‘iteration’ of johnwesson.com.

This time I am hoping for an easier, more user friendly (for me!) site with less reliance on the help of ‘techy’ friends and Uncle Google. I have been hearing for a while now that the platform ‘Squarespace’ is the way to go. ‘Not unlike sharing a pic or two on social media, John!’ We will see…

By the way John, who are you hoping to attract to your site? This is a good question. Well, in the first instance I will be using the site as a reference, a follow-up for those good folks that I have met along the way, had the good fortune to talk to and interact with. Hopefully, after a quick look through the contents of the website, things should make more sense to them.

When out & about in the Kingdom with my books and mounted photographs, I meet some wonderful people and very often, on realising that I am the author, their interest is peaked and taken to another level. This certainly helps to get the conversation going… and boosts sales! These days I only have Irish-based photography available commercially, (modest) and most of that is geared towards County Kerry tourists and visitors.

My association with Co Kerry, and Valentia in particular goes back over thirty years now culminating in my book: Kerry: The Beautiful Kingdom. The book was published by The O’Brien Press in 2017, initially in hardback and now in paperback form. (available through all good booksellers) I am currently gathering material for a follow up book.

Restoring a small, abandoned building, was our first job/task on Valentia before we could establish a base and make ourselves comfortable. It took us seven years to complete, a labour of love for sure! We named it ‘Curlew Cottage’ after the many birds we would hear on the foreshore below.
